Those who predicted that Bridesmaids would herald a new dawn for female-focused mainstream comedies have been sadly disappointed in the intervening years, as audiences have instead been treated to a series of weak remakes of that film — first Bachelorette and now Best Night Ever, a found-footage (!) comedy set at a Las Vegas (!!) bachelorette party (!!!), directed by de facto Hollywood punchlines Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer (there aren’t enough exclamation points in the world).
Understandably keen to downplay Friedberg and Seltzer’s involvement, the filmmakers are promoting Best Night Ever as ‘a raging new comedy from the producers of Paranormal Activity and The Conjuring‘ — a sales pitch that, in marketing terms, ranks somewhere alongside ‘a poignant new Holocaust drama from the makers of Norbit‘ and ‘a heart-warming new children’s adventure from the director of Switchblade Romance‘.
Hulu have the first trailer for the film, which you can watch here:
In all fairness, the idea that millions of dollars have been spent in service of this concept is completely fucking terrifying.
