The most important piece of information we’ve yet learned about Lars von Trier’s Nymphomaniac

Much has been made of this recently released third clip from Lars von Trier’s forthcoming ode to fucking Nymphomaniac, taken from the film’s third ‘chapter’, Mrs. H.

Critics have noted that the scene offers our first glimpse at Uma Thurman’s character — the Mrs. H of the chapter title — after the Stacy Martin-starring first clip (from chapter one, The Compleat Angler) and the LaBeouf-heavy second (from chapter two, Jerôme). They’ve also uniformly copied and pasted the accompanying chapter synopsis from the film’s website:

“Keeping track of a large network of lovers isn’t always easy, and Joe is soon confronted with the unpleasant consequences of being a nymphomaniac. After all you can’t make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.”

But astoundingly, none have yet mentioned the clip’s most astonishing quality:

I’m sure you don’t need me to tell you that everything we’ve seen from the film up until this point has been in the 2.35:1 aspect ratio (the same format used for this clip’s title card) which can mean only one, impossibly beautiful thing:

LARS VON TRIER’S NEW MOVIE CONTAINS ASPECT RATIO SHIFTS.

I am priapic with glee.

All eyes are now on the upcoming fourth clip (lifted from chapter four, Delirium), due to be released on September 27th. Personally, my money’s on 1.66:1.
